Setting Up Linphone with Click2Call

Linphone is a free, open-source SIP softphone available for iPhone, Android, Windows, and Mac. It is more configurable than the standard Click2Call app, which makes it a useful option for users who prefer a different interface, or for testing and troubleshooting SIP connectivity. This guide explains how to download Linphone and connect it to your Click2Call account using your SIP credentials.

When to use Linphone

Linphone is a good choice if you want a highly configurable SIP client, if you are troubleshooting a connection issue and want to rule out the standard app, or if you simply prefer Linphone's interface. It works on all four major platforms and connects to Click2Call using the same SIP credentials as any other softphone.

Before you begin: find your SIP credentials

You will need your phone number and line password from the Click2Call portal. Log in to portal.click2call.com.au, click the Voice tab, then select Line Manager from the left-hand menu. To reveal your password, add ?showpass=true to the end of the URL and press Enter. Your password will appear in the Password column next to your phone number.

1

Download and open Linphone

Open the App Store, search for Linphone, and install it. Once installed, open the app. You will be taken to the Connection screen, which shows a Username field, a Password field, and an orange Connection button.

2

Tap "Third-party SIP account"

Do not enter your details into the Username and Password fields on this screen, and do not tap the orange Connection button at the top. Those fields are for a Linphone account, not a SIP account. Scroll down and tap the Third-party SIP account button, which appears below the main login form.

3

Tap "I understand"

Linphone will display a notice explaining that some of its own features — such as group chat and video conferencing — require a Linphone account and will not be available when using a third-party SIP account. This is expected and does not affect calling. Tap I understand to continue to the SIP account setup form.

4

Fill in your SIP account details

You will now see the Third-party SIP account form. The form has two sections — the main fields on the left and Advanced parameters on the right. Fill in the fields as follows:

Field Value
Usernamee.g. 61287654321
PasswordYour line password from the portal
Domainsip.click2call.com.au
Display nameAny name you choose
TransportTLS
Registrar URI (Advanced)sip:sip.click2call.com.au
Auth ID & Outbound Proxy (Advanced)Leave blank

The Advanced parameters section is on the right-hand side of the form. Scroll right or expand it to find the Registrar URI field.

5

Tap "Connection" to register

Scroll to the bottom of the form and tap the orange Connection button. Linphone will attempt to register with the Click2Call SIP server using TLS. If your credentials are correct, the app will return to the main screen and display a green registered status indicator. You are now ready to make and receive calls.

6

Allow microphone and notification permissions

When you make or receive your first call, iOS will prompt you to allow microphone access — select Allow. Also ensure notifications are enabled for Linphone in your iPhone Settings so that incoming calls can wake the app when it is running in the background.

Troubleshooting

Linphone shows "Registration failed" or "Forbidden"

Double-check your username and password. Your username must be the full E.164 number without a + prefix (e.g. 61287654321, not +61287654321 or 0287654321). Retrieve your password from Voice → Line Manager in the portal with ?showpass=true appended to the URL.

Linphone registered but calls are not connecting

Ensure the Transport is set to TLS and the Registrar URI is set to sip:sip.click2call.com.au. UDP connections may be blocked by some firewalls or mobile networks. TLS is the recommended transport for Click2Call.

I accidentally used the wrong login screen

If you entered your details on the main Connection screen (the one with the Username and Password fields at the top), go to Linphone's settings, remove the account that was created, and start again from the Third-party SIP account button.

Incoming calls are not ringing on my mobile

Ensure notifications are enabled for Linphone in your device settings. Without notification permission, the app cannot wake up to alert you of an incoming call. On iOS, also check that Background App Refresh is enabled for Linphone in Settings → General → Background App Refresh.
